Marcotte Brings Divorce Ban Back to Table

Posted on July 16th, 2010 No Comments

According to the San Diego News Network, “John Marcotte is back – and more committed to commitment than ever.” Marcotte is attempting to get around 695,000 signatures to allow his divorce ban to be on a ballot for voters. He is part of a Christian right movement that wants to protect the institution of marriage and keep it holy. The divorce ban is officially called, “2010 California Marriage Protection Act,” according to SDNN.

SDNN reports, “Marcotte, the Christian political activist who pioneered the anti-divorce movement, defended his decision to refile the initiative, saying Prop. 8 was not enough to protect traditional marriage.” Citizens would still be allowed to annul a marriage. But, annulments require certain conditions, and “we are not working anymore as a married couple” does not count.

Marriage is not always for forever in today’s society. If you or anyone you know is facing divorce, call an experienced and trustworthy San Diego Divorce Lawyer at Fisher & Van Thiel, LLP, by dialing 760-722-7646 today.

New turns in Woods divorce

Posted on May 27th, 2010 No Comments

Tiger Woods is seeing new problems in his developing divorce talks with wife Elin Nordegren.

In the latest round of the ongoing discussion, sources have pointed out that Nordegren has begun to make greater demands against Woods for a settlement. Although the couple signed a prenuptial agreement for the 2004 marriage that fixed Nordegren’s share in case of a divorce within 10 years of the marriage at $20 million, she is reportedly now demanding much more money and more rights. Figures range from a settlement that would include $50,000 per month per child for Nordegren plus $115 million to a $750,000 million pay-off.

Nordegren is also refusing to sign a deal as a part of the divorce that would prevent her from writing a tell-all book about the marriage or divorce, and seal the couple’s history in a confidentiality agreement. This has compounded with her requests that the children be in her sole custody, instead of the previously agreed upon joint custody.

Woods has hinted that he hopes to keep the rest of the proceedings quiet and settle out of court.

If you are facing a divorce, experience and professionalism can be indispensable in keeping your proceedings smooth. Contact the San Diego divorce attorneys of Fischer & Van Thiel, LLP., by calling (760) 722-7646 today to discuss the details of your case.

Emma Caulfield, San Diego actress, divorces husband

Posted on May 20th, 2010 No Comments

Actress Emma Caulfield has filed to divorce her husband of over three years, Cornelius Grobbelaar, citing irreconcilable differences. They were married on August 23, 2006. The separation appears in court documents from May 7, 2010, and the official papers for divorce were filed May 13, 2010.

The 37 year-old actress is a native of San Diego, and has found considerable success through a television career. While still in high school, she performed at the La Jolla Playhouse and the Old Globe Theater in San Diego. Her first major role was as Brandon Walsh’s girlfriend, a character named Susan Keats, on Beverly Hills, 90210. This starting point allowed her to capture several single episode roles, landing a reoccurring character again with Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1998.

Following this success, Caulfield starred in the horror film Darkness Falls in 2003.

Neither Caulfield or Grobbelaar have commented on their proceedings, and their lawyers have kept their business quiet.
