According to the San Diego News Network, “John Marcotte is back – and more committed to commitment than ever.” Marcotte is attempting to get around 695,000 signatures to allow his divorce ban to be on a ballot for voters. He is part of a Christian right movement that wants to protect the institution of marriage and keep it holy. The divorce ban is officially called, “2010 California Marriage Protection Act,” according to SDNN.
SDNN reports, “Marcotte, the Christian political activist who pioneered the anti-divorce movement, defended his decision to refile the initiative, saying Prop. 8 was not enough to protect traditional marriage.” Citizens would still be allowed to annul a marriage. But, annulments require certain conditions, and “we are not working anymore as a married couple” does not count.
